Cartographer Joins the Crew
Dear Captain,
I am deeply flattered that you have placed such faith in me to act as your surveyor: your wandering eyes as it be. To continue my wayfaring while imparting my learnings and findings to you is innately pleasing, and I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to assist in such a grand hunt for the home for your convention Captain. As one who has been described as "persistent" and “eccentric” by previous employers, to be a part of your crew, however recent, is a grand boon.
As of my pen hitting paper I have already arrived at a location befitting your specifications, several moons prior to the designated deadline. It has been a moment since I have been stationary enough to send and receive a letter. If I knew how often I manage to outpace the messengers, I would send word even more frequently, but such is the way of mortals.
I hope you’ll be enthralled to know that I am in the region in which you began your current career path, the rolling hills and sprawling serpentine lake that spans so far it could be mistaken an ocean amidst the midlands. After consulting the local druids they imparted to me that the weather should cool significantly by the time you receive this letter. I must say trekking through the greene with a sweltering sun upon my shoulders and biting gnats swarming my every step reminds me of my excursion to a rainforest; I sincerely hope those gnats quell their troops as well by the time yourself and the Doctor arrive here. Ah I am becoming sidetracked again, my apologies Captain.
Returning to the focus of this message, and the destination I have found. It is most beautiful and to which I implore the Tavern’s visit. There is to be a congregation of merchants and barterers on the day of the last quarter moon to its transition to a crescent. The locals refer to it as their “swap-meet” and it is situated in a place most peculiar and interesting! And there is plenty need for refreshment. Speaking with the local organizers led me to where you can situate the tavern whens’t you visit such a momentous occasion.
Furthermore, I had wandered and encountered a cave opening nearby with a lengthy and intriguing history. Can you believe that historians and miners have collaborated to bring information of caves and their bounties to the general populace? Apparently this was one of the first commercialized caves in this specific region, and potentially was noted by historic maps of Spaniards, but was more recently uncovered by a local miner. Furthermore, the particular gathering the tavern will arrive to, was crafted 47 years after the founding of the cave as an attraction, it is such a successful event that they host it 3 times per annum! It is to the northwest of the first body of water you’d set sails upon. It is almost poetic in such a manner that we’d return to explore such a spot where so much began to find the perfect home for your convention Captain.
I shall continue my travels and send word when I find more events and potential winter residence for the wandering tavern. This journey of ours will not be easy, that is guaranteed, but is the journey not the most exciting part? To see, hear, and experience the wonders of the world and its makings with ones own eyes is truly such a marvel that I believe my adventuring days will never cease. There are so many beautiful things to experience and catalogue that there is simply no end, even the most mundane becomes enchanting if one stops and listens to the calls of the wind. My grandest wishes for favorable winds and plentiful bounties for you and yours Captain.
Your inquisitive wanderer,
L. Winthers
